i'm a sap. i know this. so getting all sniffly at the cinema is no big surprise. but the fact that i got tearier over peter pan than i did over cold mountain disturbs me a little.

dave and i went to see both of 'em last night, back to back... actually, they were both good films, although i don't think i could've made it through cold mountain without the supporting cast. not that nicole kidman and jude law can't act, i just didn't find their characters all that interesting. a touch too titanic-worthy. but i liked the movie around them, so i can get over it.

and peter pan. the special effects are pretty, of course, but the cartoon version never had much worry due to gravity anyhow. the script, though, is sharp and lovely and unafraid of the threats gloomier than hook.

and i s'pose i'm a little scared that my pirate-fighting days are ending... and possibly scared that they aren't, too? "cusp" is a good word for here. it reminds me of all the sci-fi time-travelling books at once, and of spiderwebs, and yet there's this slight phonetic evocation that wisps across to "cup" and thence to "crucible"... none of which have much to do with the actual definition, but sometimes word shadows are more fun than the words themselves.

(i shall try harder keep my mouth closed when chewing my words.)

barrie's version is available at project gutenberg. i might do a bit of reading...

(sorry for the blatant style-stealing, jill! but i couldn't think of a good intro on that one...)
