i just had to prove my over-18 status to buy wite-out. wite-out.

is this normal?

i hadn't bought any wite-out in a long, long time... i can just see it... had i not been too sloppy to hide the places i scribbled things out... back freshman year when i was a callow 17, i would've had to beg my elders to buy me... wite-out. yeah.

huh?

you're joking right?

I remember in junior high kids huffing it behind their books, but I always figured that if they were stupid enough to huff it, they were stupid enough to die from something like that and it wasn't such a bad thing. Natures way and all.

weird.

legality...

I've been looking online and I can't seem to find anything anywhere that says that it might be illegal for minors to buy wite-out, spray paint, or anything else like that.

I'm guessing this was Wal-Mart, right? I did see a story about them having some sort of "trip" in their cash register system to ask for the birthdate of anyone trying to buy this sort of thing (and also alcohol and tobacco). Personally, I find it offensive that they go ahead and assume that everyone underage that is going to buy the stuff is buying it for sniffing (and, hence, won't sell it to anyone under 18). At least, that's the assumption implied by having the rule. I bought my own correction pens at 16-17, and I would have been furious if I hadn't been able to buy it just because I'm not 18.

And that is one more reason for me to not shop at Wal-Mart. (That, and the fact that they always want to seem to search my cart and check my receipt when I'm leaving, yet other people with just as much stuff walk straight through. If you're going to check people, check everyone.)

If it's not Wal-Mart, let me know. I'm okay with not shopping at that place, too.

it was wal-mart, and if i understand correctly it's one of their rules, not some national project. but still! i wonder if they're doing the same thing with the dry-erase markers...

ooh, another new icon! yay!

and yes, it was wal-mart. extra-embarrassing, since i was going through the self-checkout line (generally i try to avoid 'em, but it was about ten to midnight with lines on most of the real registers...) and had put it in spanish just to goof around... so when it told me to go show my i.d., i didn't get the whole sentence, didn't know where to go show it... aarrrgh!

hahahhahahahahahhahahahhahahhahhahahahhahaha
I used to work at Wal-Mart and was NEVER told that we had to check ppl's id for wite out. That's hysterical! Although it sux that you had to go through it. You would probably find it funnier had it been someone else. :)
