dave bought a copy of lost in translation. he wanted to see it again, he wanted me to see it again, but he strongly suggested that i watch it while he was at work saturday. see, it led to this not-quite-explicable crying jag when we saw it at the downtown west, and dave wanted to be nice and far away if that happened again... one day i hope to manage either more articulate speech or less emotional complexity. but in the meantime, i spent saturday morning watching a movie by myself.

the good news: it's still gorgeous and wonderful and makes me cry. more good news: this time around, the crying didn't extend beyond the end of the movie. the bad news: i still have a hard time explaining exactly what i find so very tear-worthy in a movie billed as a comedy that so many people find to be one... not that it isn't funny, but that's not the primary thing i find there. i at least paid attention to which scenes jerked me around this time, though. if i ever learn to do the fancy lj-cut thing to avoid spoilers, perhaps i'll ruminate on it all at length, untangle it. typing's easier than talking sometimes...

afterwards, i just felt like wandering. and looking. maybe that was the problem last time, we tried to talk too fast. i ended up at the mall... nothing i really wanted to buy, just meandering through. i like crowds when i want to feel truly isolated...

actually, there's still time -- just checked knoxville.citysearch.com (http://knoxville.citysearch.com/profile/11276443?cslink=search_name_noncust), it's still playing! also out on video, though...

it may have stopped sometime in between... judging from the current selection, i'd say they're trying to make sure everyone's seen the oscar nominees so they can put together lots of righteous indignation at the results... really, of the three best pic nominees i've seen, i'd give it to lost in translation, but i won't be upset if lotr gets it... not because i loved the latest so much, but because the total 3-movie work deserves something... seabiscuit, on the other hand, would induce much bitching, as i've seen at least five better films this year.

my film viewing has gone drastically down hill since i got married. norma isn't anit films. but she's not much a film person. i, on the other hand, used to drop $5-15 a week at specialty video, and most of what i watched were $1 rentals (not new releases, and not porn).

so i haven't seen lotr or seabiscuit or lost in translation. sea biscuit and suck my left one for all i care. no interest in seeing it. i'd like to see the other 2.
