(so what if it's just an excuse to post a picture of the sandman? speaking of whom... just finished vol. 9. soon there'll be nothing left to feed the addiction...)
when I met neil, I was with a girlfriend who knows him. When she said she "knew him" I just kinda rolled my eyes behind her back and though, "Oh, fun, another rageing fan" but when we got there, he said her name, and came out to give her a hug.
One birthday, he sent her an email telling her that he knew she was going to the tori amos concert and had arranged something for her. So she goes, and there's two backstage passes for she and a friend, and Tori dedicated a song to her, my friends favorite song.
It's, bizzar to run with this girl. And she lives here in Knoxville.
Anyway~
I have odds and ends of his stuff. I keep meaning to get the whole sandman series but I'm kinda afraid too. So I try not to buy any of them, and friends get them for me along the way. I found either Death book in my *VAN* the other day, and I have the one done by the amazing japanese (right?) artist, American Gods, Smoke and Mirrors, the Neverwhere DVD set, Coroline, Wolves in the Walls, and the Day I swapped my Dad for Two Goldfish. I'm missing something. Meh. I'm not a fanny fan but I really like his storytelling, and Dave McKean artwork is some of my favorite.
wow, that's quite amazing! (oh, and don't apologize for leaving a long comment! i thoroughly enjoyed reading it.) funny, i think gaiman's prob'ly got a bigger-than-usual audience of people who feel like they're on a first-name basis with him due to his blog, but i wouldn't really imagine there being more than a few who really know him here in tennessee...
and i think i'm picking issues of the dreaming out of the quarter bins at the comics shop mostly because dave mckean kept doing the covers... really, i'm not that susceptible to spinoffs.
