mule races
Oct. 16th, 2004 11:53 pmat long last, some blurry photos from the mule races i went to with my parents a few weeks back:

i guess i was previously unaware of top mule-speed; it's kind of like the little jolt upon seeing camels run for the first time in lawrence of arabia. i wish i could've captured the more skillful competitions, things like what they call the "back-to-back race" where two riders, back-to-back on a mule will attempt to trade positions in the saddle while completing a circuit of the track as quickly as possible. or the "indian rescue race," where one rider on mule comes bolting around to another team member, who attempts to spring up into the saddle behind the first rider as quickly as possible while completing the lap. even capturing definitive evidence that these are not horses but mules might've been handy, eh?
