i was mostly just shocked that there was so little to be absolutely offended over... i liked lotr and all, but not for half the categories it got awards in. think i need to see sideways and the aviator to know what to yell over come oscar night :) and i don't know why either hero or house of flying daggers isn't up for art direction... they were both really, really pretty movies.
Yeah, I've heard The Aviator is really good. I just have a problem with Leonardo....in that he grates on my nerves. Phantom was just so beautiful. The costumes were amazing. Learn to be Lonely was the song nominated? Out of all the fantastic songs from it, they chose THAT one? I wonder if this is kinda a You-do-so-well-on-Broadway-but-this-is-the-movies type of exclusion. I don't care about them not doing much with the actors and actresses; but the screenplay, music, cinematography, etc were just exceptional in my book. Okay, I'll stop moaning over this now. Just felt like I needed to get that out.
Phantom, although maybe well received by the public, was a critical failure. Maybe that's why it wasn't nominated for more awards?
The consensus according to Rotten Tomatoes:
"The music of the night has hit something of a sour note: Critics are calling the screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s popular musical histrionic, boring, and lacking in both romance and danger. Still, some have praised the film for its sheer spectacle."
