i'll admit it: i still haven't gotten over the need for a bottle of the bath and body works lotion now and then. after a long month of ever-more crackly skin since my last bottle ran out, i caved and went shopping.

and was shocked and horrified to find that they now have a fancy-schmancy $20 line of lotion. ok, so they give you a free tomato face-wash if you buy it, but still... tomato?!? and i always thought $9 was a touch excessive, but it's oh-so-yummy-smelling and addictive... also disappointing, they've got the traditional stuff down to only six or seven scents, thus eliminating most of my favorites.

i ended up deciding i was sick of cucumber melon and rasberry... and that the "coconut lime verbena" didn't smell as much like sunscreen as i thought at first sniff. so i bought it.

then i got home and thought for a bit... ok, coconut, fine. lime, fine. but what the hell is verbena?!?

thank you, dictionary.com:
ver·be·na n. Any of various New World plants of the genus Verbena, especially one of several species cultivated for their showy spikes of variously colored flowers. Also called vervain. Any of several similar plants, such as the lemon verbena.

still not sure what that adds to the flavor-title, except possibly giving the lime more power to overcome the sunscreen-scentedness?

Praising the name of verbena...

With coconut and lime that is...

About three weeks ago I decided to try a little retail therapy. Fortunately for me, Bath & Body Works was having their semi-annual sale at this time too. I love the red, apothecary style bottles of the aromatherapy infused Ylang-Ylang & Myrrh lotion. So I have this scent in the bath soap, the shampoo, the conditioner, the foaming milk bath and the lotion. And it was all so cheap- unbelievably cheap.

Whereas my Lavender Vanilla lotion is supposed to make me sleepy, the theme for the red bottled products is sensuality. I can only hope this is true.

my favorite ever was when they had the tea-flavored line... i think it was black tea and elderberry or something? pink, and i was hoping i wouldn't have to remember the name because everyone would love it so much that it'd never disappear. it seems that they only kept the white tea and ginger, though. alas.

and i missed the year-end sale :( but i'll have to remember to check out the aromatherapy part of the store next time...

Verbena is light and sweet scented. The lemon variety would smell kinda like candied citrus. It's also what old southern ladies used to put in sachets to fragrance their clothes and undergarments.

Now, if you told someone your panties smelled like verbena they would probably think you had VD.

they discontinue all the special lines... like they leave them out for one season only. Case in point; strawberry...and watermelon. (two separate flavors of course...and why do i call them flavors? i don't eat them!) They were out 2 maybe 3 years ago during the summer for 2 short months... i rationed myself for over a year and a half on that stuff! did they ever bring it back? no. grrr

oh, and they have cut out a lot of my favorite scents too. pearberry--gone. country apple == gone, i think. either that or i stopped looking for it. plumeria???

No more Pearberry?

Lemongrass Sage- my favorite along with Mary Kelly's- gone. Laurel Berry Garland from last Christmas- gone. Butter cookie- gone. Caribbean Coconut- gone.

However, this past summer and again this Christmas, B&BW brought back Honeysuckle, Pink Grapefruit, Country Apple and Seaspray (yuck) for a while.

E-bay is good about having the discontinued stuff. I've never bought any B&BW stuff off of eBay but it's a Plan B, if you will.

I too use the Coconut-Lime-Verbena lotion. It wasn't my normal style cause I'm a berries girl but something about it is very refreshing. I used to have a verbena plant. It had purple flowers and was very beautiful. It died.

That's all.

I'm continually surprised by how much of a dork I am. The reason I know the word verbena: in the old BBS game Tele-Arena, verbena potions cured poison. So I looked it up to see what it meant.

Other TA-gained knowledge: amaranth is a flower that never dies or a reddish-purple color, hyssop is a blueish bitterish herb, and yarrow, anemone, rue, and rowan are all plants that have some sort of medicinal properties, but I don't remember jack else about them.

Also, minotaurs are pretty mean until you level a few times, that first Stygian really sucks, and the Demon King is the biggest pain in the ass. I never did get that violet rune.
