It's a rum from Brazil made from sugar canes. Here's pictures of some bottles (http://www.internetwines.com/spirits-rumtemplate-cacacha.html). I found a bottle of Cachaça 51 at a shop today and bought it. Knowing my luck it's the Montezuma of cachaça.
For Caiparinhas take a lime and roll it around on a table to mush it up, cut it into segments, stick it in a glass and put in some brown sugar. Then mash the crap out of the limes/brown sugar, pour in the cachaça and fill the rest of the glass with crushed ice and stir.
While you drink it, you keep stirring and mashing the limes with a spoon. Or at least I do, 'cause I'm neurotic and need to do things with my hands.
On a related note, Mardi Gras parades have started!! I think I'm going to see my first one tomorrow. At least one person from Cookeville is coming here for Mardi Gras. SO SHOULD YOU!
