so yeah. while i really really love blogger, it's starting to feel a bit like holding out for icq did when everyone was switching over. while i do enjoy fighting windmills in my spare time, i've got another blogger blog that i may revive when i need to show off.

in the meantime, all the gooey whiney stuff is moving here. but i'll keep this up until i figure out a good place to display the old blogroll... i kinda like it and stuff.

grrr...

i bought a used audio-book of chuck palahniuk's diary (unabridged) at mckay's over the weekend to keep me company on the way back. i'm an addict, and i enjoyed fight club a few weeks back. the tapes were in a little tray thingy, not individual-packaged like they sometimes are, and i didn't think to count them.

the first one was missing.

i feel dumb.

at least i should be back that way in time to catch the 7-day audio-book and cd return policy...

so yeah. should someone by some chance hand you an orphan copy of that first tape, might i please borrow it?

i'm a sap. i know this. so getting all sniffly at the cinema is no big surprise. but the fact that i got tearier over peter pan than i did over cold mountain disturbs me a little.

dave and i went to see both of 'em last night, back to back... actually, they were both good films, although i don't think i could've made it through cold mountain without the supporting cast. not that nicole kidman and jude law can't act, i just didn't find their characters all that interesting. a touch too titanic-worthy. but i liked the movie around them, so i can get over it.

and peter pan. the special effects are pretty, of course, but the cartoon version never had much worry due to gravity anyhow. the script, though, is sharp and lovely and unafraid of the threats gloomier than hook.

and i s'pose i'm a little scared that my pirate-fighting days are ending... and possibly scared that they aren't, too? "cusp" is a good word for here. it reminds me of all the sci-fi time-travelling books at once, and of spiderwebs, and yet there's this slight phonetic evocation that wisps across to "cup" and thence to "crucible"... none of which have much to do with the actual definition, but sometimes word shadows are more fun than the words themselves.

(i shall try harder keep my mouth closed when chewing my words.)

barrie's version is available at project gutenberg. i might do a bit of reading...

(sorry for the blatant style-stealing, jill! but i couldn't think of a good intro on that one...)

much better today, thanks.

but really, overall, it was a fantastic new year's celebration. i went to the party at the complex - while not featuring a huge number of revelers, those present were good, quality revelers... which is far more fun in any case.

i wish i could remember how to say "i'm drunk, let's play chess" in russian. i tried very, very hard to learn, but i think the vodka limited my linguistic abilities... it didn't much help my chess-playing ones either. and after all, i wasn't channeling mother russia's every desire... unlike some people.

the champagne was cheap, and no one really liked it anyhow, so we mostly just splashed it all over everyone. good times, good times.

(still not sure i'm a livejournaller for good, but might as well give it a try... once i get good and bored, i want to play with this embedding in another webpage idea... i assume it's an xml trick?)

then yesterday afternoon, i woke up, finished watching harvey to avoid testing le boyfriend's threat to dump me on sight if i didn't, and headed off to knoxvegas to welcome him back from alaska... and take a nap. my hangover, his jetlag, it all worked out rather cozily, at least as cozily as you can expect such things to work out. it was a sad waste to let him buy me dinner later, though...

and now... it feels like monday. and my lunch hour's quickly wasting away.

i'm not sure if i'm moving in here yet. i like blogger, durnit! but i'm lazy. and the ability to spy on many people with the click of one button, this is nice.

the neighbors are throwing a party! so never mind, i don't have to!

yeah. prob'ly small and full of procrastinators who didn't think to put together plans earlier... but feel free to show up at my doorstep, byob. if i'm not throwing the party, somebody else had better be doing so! i'm going to go grab some beer and the ingredients for mom's chili-cheese dip tonight... please don't make me get drunk and fat alone!

hot water!

the news is all good tonight... when i stopped by the apartment offices this morning to pay rent, the mention of not having enough hot water was greeted not with rolling eyes but with an "oh, we'll have a maintenance person stop by and turn the heater up." presto. no more boiling water every time i want a decent bath. must remember not to whine about the uselessness of it all until i ask next time.

and, even better news, i finally got to talk to le boyfriend tonight. not for long, and over a din of screaming nephews, but it's far more satisfying than the sad little answering machine message i got saturday when i finally quit waiting by the phone and went out to the reunion thingy. (going out=guarantee that phone will ring, it will be the desired party, and my trusty cell phone will have turned itself off.) reunioning was fun... lots of good folks there. i feel a bit fish-out-of-water in good intellectual discussions these days, and even worse when the subjects turn techno-geeky, but hey. it's still entertaining, even if i'm not as much of a know-it-all as i used to be...
