is it true? that cup a joe's in the old city is closing/closed? (read it in this week's metropulse, but the online edition of the same article doesn't seem to mention it. maybe i dreamed it.)

i'm not too old to go to new orleans! yay!!! (i was worried the night before we took off. i put off packing until wednesday morning.) it was far, far too fabulous.

(i WILL write more later. but i'm still on holiday from work. and i've had about five cups of tea since waking up this morning. and accomplished absolutely nothing else. thus very, very hyper and incapable of putting together real sentences.)

buy me this, please. (interest created by this article plus this book that i read for the wwii history class...)

(really, though, it's alright if you don't want to go to canada. i'll get over the international shipping and buy it anyhow once i recover financially from the stack of unpaid holidays coming up.)

you can't stop me now!

i've already voted!

(if you too live in the knox county area and feel the need to have your bases covered in case of natural catastrophe or traffic jam or illness or nefarious conspiracy by co-workers or anything else that could go wrong on election day, here's the info you need.)

i found out that one of of the guys in the office is from tullahoma.

for you fans of tennessee geography, that's the slightly larger next town over from that really small town called manchester... which i s'pose is the closest thing to a hometown i've got. both of which are about 170 miles from here.

suppose we'll have to trade sun-drop addiction stories sometime... (well, ok, so i've mostly only got the one about the guy i knew who had kidney stones by 9th grade; they were blamed on excessive consumption of the stuff.)

not as out there as repeatedly running into one of my elementary school pals in the touristy parts of nyc on spring break a few years back... but the odds still have to be fairly low.

so dave and i were at shaun of the dead, at the downtown west. rather enjoying it, really. it's about fifteen minutes to the end of the movie.

they turn on the lights. "it's not a fire or anything, but we have to evacuate the theatre now!"

they handed out two free tickets per person on the way out, so we are not at all disgruntled with our favorite cinema. actually, hate to see them losing money for whatever stupid thing brought on the police cars.

best we can figure, it was probably a bomb threat. the most controversial offering just now is going upriver, that documentary about how the swift boat veterans for truth are full of it. anybody hears otherwise, please do tell.

and if you've seen shaun of the dead, are the last fifteen minutes incredible enough to waste movie passes on? or should we just go see the pro-kerry film? and i heart huckabees. i have a funny feeling that one set of passes shall go towards that one when it opens.

(speaking of subversive films... the pilot light, which i only heard of today from bill the awesome comic store guy, is showing outfoxed next sunday night. anybody, anybody?)

i've been too lazy to reformat my hard-drive for a while now... been meaning to ever since internet explorer got weird and i switched to mozilla. (i'd rather just keep the essential stuff on the internet and reformat now and then than be ultra-vigilant against viruses.) this morning, i finally gave up and downloaded spy-sweeper to hold it until the next time i have a free day to reinstall everything.

132 spyware and adware traces removed. my poor, pokey computer. i want to hug it for having the willpower to run at all under all that crap. no more internet explorer, ever again.

neil gaiman pointed out in a recent weblog post that tim burton did not direct tim burton's nightmare before christmas. i didn't believe him. i checked the imdb page. what do you know, it's right there, he didn't. nor did he write the screen play. i'm in shock.

potation is my new favorite word. i plan to commit much of it tonight. assuming i get away from the computer now, so i can go jogging and still get my toga gear packed up before i have to be at work.
