Apr. 10th, 2004 01:49 pmanybody seen gothika? any good? call me a snob, but based on previews i really wasn't interested. until i heard that mathieu kassovitz directed. (hurrah, borders had a copy of the french edition of premiere magazine! and they always have at least one article on kassovitz...) you know, the guy who played amélie's love interest? which alone wouldn't motivate me to obsessively seek his movies, but he also starred in amen and directed la haine, interesting movies both, which indicates at least a certain degree of taste overlapping mine...
despite the sudden spark of interest, i got matrix revolutions for tonight... no great expectations, but dave and i agreed we might as well finish out the series.

Date: 2004-04-10 11:00 pm (UTC)and yeah, while low expectations led to little disappointment with matrix revolutions, i certainly wasn't impressed. i realized pretty early on that i didn't remember whatever parts of the second movie were relevant, so i was mildly lost on the plot... and since we're all accustomed to standard matrix-action-style now, there weren't even any grabbing new visuals, which was the one thing that kept me hanging on through the second movie. (i never felt like digging into the architect's speeches because i had a feeling they were empty underneath, but the fight against many smiths and the ghost things were at least fun to look at.) oh well, at least they're not trying to stretch it any further. yet.
