May. 1st, 2006 10:31 pmi have things that i've been burning all day to sit and write about...
but now i'm a little pissy.
i just came home to a notice on my door that the apartment complex will be paving tomorrow... ok, cool. anyone parked in front of my apartment between 7:30 a.m. and whenever they finish will be towed and charged $50. kinda short notice, but i can deal...
then i realize that my neighbor, who's hispanic and doesn't seem to speak much english, has stepped out of his apartment and is watching me read the letter. his question? "what is?"
i'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. less than 24 hours notice, no translation. i'm fairly sure that i'm the only native anglophone in my building of six apartments. i imagine someone in the building is bilingual enough, but just in case, i got a friend to translate "don't park here on tuesday" for me so i could make a sign...
hopefully the complex is just bluffing. but still. *sigh*

Apr. 16th, 2006 03:21 pmthe little piece of free software at the bottom of this page is pretty freakin' cool.
it's been chewing on my mp3 collection for quite a while now. but yay, one auto-produced running mix coming right up. only real work involved will be weeding out all the lame stuff.

Mar. 26th, 2006 10:09 amran the 5K associated with the knoxville marathon this morning.
i came in right around 30 min. the clock said a little more, the "net time" based on the chip worn around my ankle said a little less. either way, it's slower than my last 5K, but about what i was shooting for given my lack of outdoor training here lately and the hilly course. it felt really good, which means i was prob'ly taking it easier than i should've, but yeah. in the last half mile, i suddenly realized i was running next to andi, one of the local dancers, and actually managed to carry on a little conversation.
gotta admit, the finish line in the stadium is kinda groovy :)
time to shower.

quick camera question...
Mar. 25th, 2006 03:43 pm(this is from kelly's birthday jam the other night, by the way...)
anybody know how to not get the splotchy, dusty look i'm getting on photos like this? it mostly only happens on ones taken at the laurel theater -- low light, with the fixtures along the walls so they end up in most of the pictures. ideas? is there some way i can set the camera to still get action and not splotches? some way to situate myself in relation to the lights?

Mar. 1st, 2006 07:50 amday 1 of the annual caffeine withdrawals.
i'm well-armed with painkillers and herbal tea, and i've warned most of my co-workers that i'm gonna be a little grouchy/sleepy for a few days. i loaded up on enough fat tuesday coffee and chocolate last night that i don't expect to feel it until late afternoon, though...

Feb. 28th, 2006 04:40 amjust trying out the whole "blog from flickr" thing. dugan, my boss's great dane who weighs at least as much as she does, came by the office on the way home from the vet yesterday... satellite dish collar equals instantly funny enough to grab the camera.
this is disappointing...

i still haven't found a way to talk about these weekends that feels likely to capture the experience. i need to try, though, as soon as i can grab a few hours with nothing to rush off to. (for example, getting to work... should've hit the shower ten minutes ago!)
